Kettering Hockey Club organised a highly successful have a go day for children from near by primary and secondary schoolsand 26 local children spent three very enjoyable hours at Kettering Astro pitch
learning the skills of hockey. New skills were taught, competitions were held and games were played by the children whose ages ranged from 6½ to 12. Plenty of food was consumed, prizes were “eaten” and certificates awarded to all the participants at the end of the day.The format for the day was based on the Hockey England Ltd Stix Awards
and all players will receive a “Stix Award” badge and certificate. Twenty one players received the “Cub” award and five did extremely well to gain the Bronze level award. The Bronze winners were Hannah Garnham, Jade Boggust, Christina House, Connie Shingles and Samantha Cornwell.Kettering Hockey Club has extended free
junior membership of the club to all the participants and many thanks must also go to Jon Vines and Kettering Borough Council for their support of this event and their continued support for Hockey in Kettering. Finally many warm thanks to all the helpers from the club, particularly the junior members who gave up their time to coach and help run the event:-
So to Tom Sellers, Matt Wood, Dave George, Jill Livingstone, Mel Linnell, Rhys Linnell, Jean Smith, Beth Winfield,Hilary Winfield, Dawn Longhurst and Michelle Tanser as well as team photographer and general dogs-body Jake Randle, many many thanks. It was in fact a great day and the time certainly flew by and I for one thoroughly enjoyed it. It will certainly be worth doing again as there were some great little players all of whom improved as the day went on. Hopefully they will all be interested enough to come to junior training sessions and eventually become full members of the club.
